The Merry Wives of Windsor
Richmond Shakespeare Society Summer show July 2013

The Fountain Gardens, Twickenham Riverside, July 2013

The RSS annual outdoor summer show in the delightful Fountain gardens. The Director, John Gilbert, desiged the show around a thrust stage with picnickers sitting on three sides and the seated audience sitting behind a row of picnickers in front. This called for a totally different rig from the two 6m access towers used in previous shows because it was important not to light the audience, too much, and to have each acting area lit from at least two sides. The 9m x 9m x 4m tall trussed rig ably satisfied the hanging positions requirement and the all LED fitting installation permitted a hugely versatile lighting design.

30no. Longman Parco 9B's were used for the main lighting, having a very bright, 35º beam angle and RGBW LED's giving superb, sublte colour beyond the normal  RGB pallete. 4no. JB Thomas Pixpar 90's for special area lighting with a punchy narrow beam, 3no. Studio Due Archibars were used to light the back drop and 4no. iPix BB4's were used to dramatically bathe the Naked Lady statues in bright, gorgeous light.

A Tender Thing
Richmond Shakespeare Society

The Mary Wallace Theatre, Februaru 2014

A Tender Thing is a contemporary reworking of the story of Romeo & Juliet by Ben Power. Directed by Simon Bartlett, it is a moving account of age, memory and humanity and a tale of love and sacrifice. This show was the London Premier of this powerful play.

The lighting design was delibrately intense to match the intensity of the two actor show. A very simple set gave the opportunity for all the drama to be created by acting and lighting alone.

The final scene was lit by two opposing parcans with a Sunset red: Lee 025 and a Regal Blue: Lee 199 gel. The partly raised stage platform was enhanced with 8no. birdies with blue gels. This had the effect of separating, visually, the acting area from the stage.

Yardbirds 50th anniversary concert

St Georges Suite, Twickenham Stadium, 15 March 2013

BRIGHT iDEAS has been commissioned as lighting designer for the legendary Yardbirds 50 th anniversary concert at Twickenham on 15 March 2013.

This has been the most prestigious gig to date for BRIGHT iDEAS. Five hundred fans came from all over the world to see the legendary band, led by its original drummer Jim McCarty. The Yardbirds, as a band, was born on Eel Pie Island and started the careers of arguably the worlds best three guitarists, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton.

Larry Richmond's writes in the May edition of Beat magazine, "The Yardbirds began their rise to world super stardom back in the 1960's, the decade which some refer to as the Swinging Sixties.

Five decades later, The Yardbirds celebrate their 50th Anniversary with a concert that had an electric atmosphere - not just the guitars - but the people as well. Fans from all parts of the globe came to pay homage to this famous UK band which had changed the face of music back in the 1960s.

The fans lucky enough to get a ticket (the concert had been fully sold out many months before) were treated to some vintage Yardbirds. Past members of the band were there on stage, including Jim McCarty, Chris Dreja, Top Topham, John Idan, Alan Glen and Ray Majors. It was a night of excellent music, combined with some very good sound and lighting.

Waite wedding reception

Kingston United Reformed Church Hall, October 2012

The Bride and groom were keen to have their wedding reception in their own church but were not prepared to have the reception in the church hall with its existing lighting. The hall measures about 30m x 10m by 6m high, has no windows and only flouresent strip lighting at ceiling level.

BRIGHT iDEAS was commisioned with the challenge to use as little of the architectural lighting as possible to create a magical, autumnal environment in which to hold the wedding breakfast and afterward to light the groom's rock band.

The concept was to use ETC source fours with leaf breakup gobos to provide white light on the white table cloths  to make it look like a forest floor and to use LED's with autumnal colours to warm the tables, walls and ceiling. The result was indeed magical with the architectural lighting not used at all.
